A nail-biting and moving story of humanity, in a time when the world turned upside down.

Beth’s 13th birthday is coming up, but online learning, lockdowns, and viruses are getting in the way of her first big teenage bash. After receiving a text message from her grandmother, Beth, shifts her focus to a risk-taking adventure that could result in something even more valuable or big trouble!

  • Beth approached the front stoop and peaked through the window of the front door. The front desk. Empty. Unsure what came over her she exhaled and slowly opened the door. What are you doing? You are going to get caught, stop. Leave the package and GO! But her body ignored all the warning bells in her head. She craned her neck out and scanned the foyer like a tortoise coming out of its shell. The coast was clear. She knew exactly how to get to her grandmother’s room from there, it wasn’t far. It had been a long time since she’d seen her grandmother in person and who knew how long it would be again. In that moment she made a choice and didn’t care what the consequences were. ‘Run for it,’ she said under her breath. Sprinting down the hall. She took a left, a right and leaped up three steps like one of the superheroes Benson loved. Not taking a breath and clutching the yellow box for dear life. She was equal parts terrified and exhilarated. HALT. She came to an abrupt stop. Door 14. Gran’s door. SHE MADE IT, walked in immediately, closing the door behind her.
